What a company charter is, and why an idea needs one

By The Autopo team

Before Autopo starts an AI team, it writes a company charter. The charter is easy to skip past, and it is the part that decides whether the rest of the work makes sense.

An idea is not yet a company

An idea in your head is a feeling about a future. It does not yet say who it is for, what it will refuse to do, or how a decision gets made. A team that acts on a feeling will guess, and guess differently from you.

What the charter holds

The charter records what the company is for and who it serves. It sets how the company decides, and what it will not do. Written down, it becomes something a role can read, follow and be held to.

Where the charter comes from

You do not write the charter alone. In Genesis, you describe a new idea in a sentence or two, and Autopo shapes it into a charter. In Adopt, you bring an existing product through the same step, so the company starts from what you already have.

Why an AI team needs it

An AI team works from the charter. It gives every role the same context, keeps the work inside the company's scope, and gives you a fixed point to check the work against. Change the charter, and the work follows.

The founder stays on the Board

A charter is not a handover. You stay on the Board and approve the governed actions: anything that spends money, speaks for you or cannot be undone. The charter sets what the team works towards; the decisions stay yours.

Write the charter for the idea you have now

Start with the idea you cannot stop thinking about. Autopo is free to start: every account gets a personal AI team and 50 free credits. Starting a whole company is invite-only for now; ask for an invite on the home page.
